Mussel

The common name for an edible bivalve mollusc found worldwide, usually attached to rocks near the water line, but sometimes buried in the sand. The shell is elongated and asymmetrical, dark blue-black in colour with a silvery interior, and with a small, mustard to orange coloured, slightly rubbery, piece of flesh attached. Mussels can be steamed, smoked, boiled, roasted or fried.
