Sumac

The fruit of the Sumac plant in the form of small, spherical red drupes called sumac bobs, that grow in dense clusters. These are dried and ground to form a purple-red, sour, tangy powder or spice and then mixed with salt. It is commonly used in the Middle East, sprinkled over rice, to flavour kebabs and to spice up fried and barbecued meat.
