Corn

Also called maize, a cereal grain and staple food in many countries, grown and consumed worldwide. The edible, pea-size kernels cover the solid inner cob to form each ear, surrounded by leaves or husks. Some varieties are ground to produce flour. The sweetcorn variety, high in sugar content and yellow in colour, is eaten as a vegetable rather than a grain, either fresh, canned or frozen.
