Sweet cheese & raisin turnovers
Turnovers is a great dessert to make your own filling of choice. Here the fresh white cheese mixed with raisins makes the perfect choice.
2 cups mixed ricotta and Greek fresh myzithra cheeses, drained well
2/3 cup sugar
1 tsp orange blossom water
1 tsp grated orange zest
½ tsp cinnamon
2 Tbs raisins
1 small egg
3 Tbs flour
2 sheets puff pastry, cut into 6 squares each
1 egg beaten with 1 Tbs water
Combine the cheeses, sugar, cinnamon, orange blossom water, raisin, flour and egg in a mixing bowl. Preheat the oven to 375 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place 2-3 tablespoons of the cheese mixture onto each square of puff pastry and fold over to shape a triangle. Brush the edges with a little water to make sure they are securely closed. Brush with the egg wash. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, until golden and puffed. Remove, cool slightly and serve.
