Traditional Μediterranean diet

It has been proven beyond any doubt that the diet of Mediterranean peoples had contributed decisively to the phenomenon of greater longevity and well-being.

In the late 1950s, the American physiologist Ancel Keys conducted the famous "Seven Countries Study". It was an exhaustive study of the dietary culture of the Mediterranean.
The conclusions of this project were truly surprising and created a new term, the so-called “Mediterranean diet”. Antonia Trichopoulos and her husband, have since dedicated their lives in order to teach how great this diet will be for their health. 

The inhabitants of the Mediterranean region shared a secret created from the sun and the sea: the food they ate. Over the centuries a wise and efficacious diet developed, which proved beneficial for conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and many others. So, the Mediterranean Diet is THE way to go!


For over ten thousand years, the Mediterranean Sea has been a major source of food for the people of the lands that encircle it, and so fish and seafood , rather than meat, has always been a key ingredient of the Mediterranean diet

The first foundations of the home are bread, wine and oil. It’s also  the fresh fruits and vegetables such as avocados, tomatoes, oranges, lemons, grapes, berries, and many others, with their multitude of anti-oxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals; it’s the whole grains  and unrefined cereals, including whole wheat, brown rice, oatmeal, barley; it’s less animal protein, and more fish and seafood; it’s the Omega-3 fatty acid of olive oil and  of nuts and seeds, such as natural almonds, sesame seeds, walnuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, and peanuts;  it is the yogurt; it is the milk and the cheese that is made from it; the herbs and spices, garlic; And all of these in  combination, provide an incalculable store of health-boosting factors that nourish the body and fend off disease. 

The importance of the Mediterranean diet in maintaining human health is so substantial that in 2010 UNESCO included the Mediterranean dietary tradition in its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. So we do know what the Mediterranean tastes like. It is the flavour of life itself.
