The region of Tuscany is famous for some of the finest wines in Italy and its vineyards are among the world's best. The main variety is Sangiovese; its favoured forms in Tuscany are Brunello and Chianti, a unique blend, and Tuscany’s ambassador to the world of wine.

The areas that stand out in terms of quality are: Chianti, Chianti classico, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Bolgheri, Carmignano and for white wine, San Gimignano. It is important to mention a comparatively new generation of wines in the region, the Super Tuscan, which have followed a more international pattern, with the use of French varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

In Tuscany you can find wineries almost everywhere. The majority have visiting hours and therefore, the area has turned into one of the most important regions for wine tourism in the world. Apart from wineries, the area has lots of small restaurants where you can taste local specialties from its rich gastronomic tradition, along with some of the most valuable regional wines.
